I am a Pennsylvania licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer.
Every day continues to be a new learning experience. There's so much for us to share, in all aspects of funeral service.
Share with me, my journey in this fascinating and rewarding field.
I began my journey to becoming a funeral director in 2002. It was something I had wanted to do since the age of eight. For me, funeral service isn't my "job", it's my "calling". I love what I do. It was what I was meant to do.
I have two grown, wonderful children who have always supported and encouraged me with literally everything I've ever tried, or accomplished. They have been my rocks. I work with my other half, who is also a FD/Emb. You may think that death must be all we talk about, and that we are probably a "dark" couple, or lead a dark life,...it's not, we are not, and we don't.
We experience as much of life as possible, as we see way too often in our jobs just how quickly it can be taken away. And, yes, humor is a large part of who we are (I, being the funnier of the two!). We lead a happily goofy life.
Over the years, I've learned that for all of the big things we experience in life, it's really the millions of little things occurring every day, that our lives are really based on. I do my best to experience what I can, and make a point of challenging myself to try new things, even if those things may seem silly to others, or if they scare me. If it scares me, I'll still do it, I'll just do it scared. Life is just too short. We've got to live while we're still alive! (I believe Bon Jovi said that).
I want to open up the lines of communication between the public and the field of funeral service. I really believe there is a lot that is misunderstood with what goes on in a funeral home, and in the life of a funeral director/embalmer. Thinking back to before I began my journey, I realize there were a lot of misconceptions that I had as well.
As unfortunate as it is, death is a part of life. There's no getting around it, but it doesn't have to be scary. Let's talk..
